Parts covered in this class

Get a few of the following, (1 of each, then when you decide which you like best, you'll likely get multiples):
  • PIC microchips: 16F84, 16F876, and/or 16F877

Don't buy the following, we have them on the floor:

You'll need the following if you decide to use the sitePlayer in a project:

  • SitePlayer embedded web server - available form NetMedia. The SitePlayer (SP-1) module itself and the LFS1022 Ethernet filter are the only parts you really need if you're going to use this environment. The development kit can be handy, but it's not strictly necessary. We have one available at ITP for testing. The ethernet filters are sold in five-packs, so you might want to go in with someone else when you buy.

For convenience, the NYU computer store has the following in stock:

  • PIC 16F877 20I/P (the PDIP package)
  • PIC 16F876 20I/SP (the SPDIP package)
  • PIC 16F84A 04I/P (generally less used)
  • 4MHz crystals, HC49/U or /S case
  • 20 MHz crystals, HC49/U or /S case
  • 10 MHz crystals, HC49/U or /S case
  • 22pF Capacitors, disc, ceramic
  • 1 uF capacitors, radial, electrolytic
  • 0.1 uF capacitors, radial, electrolytic
  • Breadboard
  • Power Supply (I recommend a 12VDC regulated supply)
  • standard servo
  • Flex Sensor
  • motor, gear 69rpm@12vdc
  • motor, dc 5.2k rpm @3v

In addition, you'll find most of the parts you used in intro to physical computing useful still; breadboards, power supplies, etc. The list of parts for that class is also available online on this site.
